how inspiring is this canadian label/designer?

DACE Spring 2010 from Arcade Original on Vimeo.

(here is a little secret:
well, not so much anymore...
i keep thinking about going to art/design school.
i would love to go to parsons...
but there's this nagging, practical, superego side of me that
thinks pursuing something like this is almost indulgent.
or that i am not talented enough.
perhaps i should feel more than think...
sigh.)

p.s.
i love my girlfriends...
in 1 email thread over 1 week:
baby updates, joys of pregnancy,
jury duty, annual christmas dinner, and most recently...
'is it weird that i'm liking this new miley cyrus song?'
followed by, 'party in the usa?' (sent from a blackberry device).
they make me laugh :)

taste: sweet awesome rhubarb + turkish yogurt cake

so i found this recipe while
browsing one of the many blogs
that make me so hungry,
o pistachio ...
and i really want to make this now.
but alas, i don't have any rhubarb.
must find/buy some.
tomorrow.

turkish yogurt cake

4 large eggs, separated
1/2 cup superfine (caster) sugar
3 tbsp all-purpose (plain) flour
1 2/3 cup strained Greek-style yoghurt
grated zest of 1 unwaxed lemon
juice of 1 lemon

Preheat the oven to 350°F / 175°C.

Beat the egg yolks with the sugar to a thick, pale cream. Beat in the flour, then the yoghurt, lemon zest, and lemon juice until it is thoroughly blended. Whisk the egg whites until stiff and fold them into the yoghurt mixture. Pour this into a round, nonstick baking tin (about 9 inches in diameter), greased with butter.

Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until the top is brown. It will puff up like a soufflé and then subside. Turn out onto a serving plate, and serve warm or cold.

stewed rhubarb with ginger

3 cups rhubarb stalks (about 4 stalks), green leaves discarded, cut into 1/4-inch slices
1/3 cup sugar
zest of one orange
2 tbsp minced candied ginger
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp butter

Preheat the oven to 350°F / 175°C. (This could easily be prepared on the stovetop - and in that way, I suppose, would be properly stewed - but if you're making it together with the yoghurt cake, it makes sense to cook them in the oven together.)

Combine the rhubarb, sugar, orange zest, vanilla and ginger in a lightly buttered baking pan and allow to macerate for 15 minutes. Cut the butter into small pieces and dot over the surface of the fruit. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the rhubarb is soft.

hear: boat behind

by kings of convenience

this makes me think of:
blue and white striped beach umbrellas
(at the beau rivage in nice).
skinny dipping.
being late for morning classes.
eating cheap chinese food from a truck.
my now deceased vintage riding boots.
library stacks.
that time of the day when the afternoon sun is just about to
rendezvous with the first evening star.
the smell of suntan lotion.
trees strung with fairy lights.
empanadas at kensington market.
letters to self.

love: oxfords

i'm wearing my vintage pair today.
with my makeshift 'boyfriend' jeans.
aka normal jeans
that i rolled up (a la see-images-below).

yesterday i went thrifting for blazers.
yes... the kind with shoulder pads
that my mom rocked in the 80s.
nada.
slightly disappointed but
i am going to be patient.
hopefully, i find some next time i go.
maybe this weekend
(fingers crossed).

do: pumpkin day

saturday afternoon
was bright and sunny
and as autumn-y as can be.
so we spent it picking pumpkins
at a local pumpkin patch
adjacent to a farmer's market.

things we did with our pumpkins:
- carved it
- made creamy pumpkin soup
- roasted the pumpkin seeds
- made pumpkin pie

hear: dakota

by stereophonics.

just got back from the UK.
thought i would post an old stereophonics hit,
one of my absolute favourites,
while i wait for my photos to upload
on my computer.

anyway, there's something about this song...

"Wake up cold coffee and juice
Remembering you
What happened to you?
I wonder if we'll meet again
Talk about us instead
Talk about why did it end

You made me feel like the one
Made me feel like the one
"
