i've been rockin' out to this lately
thinking the French are just so damn brilliant...
... it's 20 seconds till the last call
you're going hey hey hey hey hey!

hear: boat behind
by kings of convenience
this makes me think of:
blue and white striped beach umbrellas
(at the beau rivage in nice).
skinny dipping.
being late for morning classes.
eating cheap chinese food from a truck.
my now deceased vintage riding boots.
library stacks.
that time of the day when the afternoon sun is just about to
rendezvous with the first evening star.
the smell of suntan lotion.
trees strung with fairy lights.
empanadas at kensington market.
letters to self.

hear: dakota
by stereophonics.
just got back from the UK.
thought i would post an old stereophonics hit,
one of my absolute favourites,
while i wait for my photos to upload
on my computer.
anyway, there's something about this song...
"Wake up cold coffee and juice
Remembering you
What happened to you?
I wonder if we'll meet again
Talk about us instead
Talk about why did it end
You made me feel like the one
Made me feel like the one"

hear: james taylor
his songs remind me of my parents
because as far as i can remember
my father always sang and played them on the guitar
for my mother who only swoons in secret.
& before there was iron and wine
or schuyler fisk and joshua radin,
there was james taylor and carly simon:
i always sing along when my dad plays this song:
lastly, a personal favourite
and a song my brother has patiently
learned to play on his guitar so i can sing
my own little rendition:

hear: ask
"spending warm summer days indoors
writing frightening verse
to a buck-toothed girl in Luxembourg...
ask me, ask me, ask me!"
- the smiths
---
i watched 500 days of summer
(featuring the smiths'
the light that never goes out)
last night
with my friends dave & val
and we all loved it
(we also had sushi and i used
my old uni student card to shamelessly
get 10% off of our bill. it worked.
youth is splendid).

thunder and strings and memories
lull me to sleep...
good night to you.
